It happened in Washington, the ever-range state.

It was late, and there was a woman who was about to kill herself.

She was young, standing on a ledge of an overpass.

She was holding a stuffed animal with hair blowing in all directions.

She was really going to do it this time.

Traffic whizzed by, roaring engines, red taillights, endless rivers of Detroit engineering, and the weeping woman gazed at the long chain of speeding cars, and she set a simple prayer into the den of the traffic

boom.

She said, Jesus, I'm going to kill myself.
