Just a quick heads up that today's episode contains descriptions of sexual harassment that some listeners might find disturbing.

This summer, Skylar Bedio, a former athletic training intern with New York City FC of Major League Soccer, went on social media and wrote a series of posts.

She talked about harassment from and frequent touching by the team's superstar striker, Davi Dvia, and wrote that her bosses thought it was, quote,, great comedic material.

And last month, she opened up about her experience to the Athletics Pablo Morro.

Today, we're joined by both Pablo and Skylar to talk about what Skylar says happened to her at NYCFC, how it impacted her, and the response she has received since speaking out publicly about her experience.

Well, first of all, Pablo, for those who might not be so familiar, who is Davi Dvia?

Davi Dvia is obviously a very well-known soccer player from Spain. He was and still is.

The all-time leading goal scorer for the Spanish national team played for a number of clubs, most notably Barcelona, probably honestly the greatest for the history of Spanish soccer.

Can you remind us how big a deal it was when he came to Major League Soccer?

You know, VIA is one of the bigger names in the history of the league.

Start-um isn't strange to Davi VIA. The New York City FC captain is the first player to ever sign with the newly formed MLS team. And in its second season of inception, VIA has so far exceeded expectations.

MLS generally is considered still sometimes as a quote unquote retirement league, where these sort of older, big-name European players come to sort of just see out their last few years and, you know, just sit on the beach and kind of wind down the field.

VIA, on the other hand, came and excelled.

Next step sit and carry it in the bottom corner. And there it is. The 400 career goal for club and country. And for Davi VIA, it comes at Yankee Stadium for New York City football club.

So I think that sort of also added to his reputation and the way people perceived him in the United States. He was just as good in the US as he was in Spain.

Well, so it was with NYCFC that the VIA first came into contact with a woman you recently interviewed Skyler, but the, oh, can you tell us a little about Skyler's background and how she ended up on the staff at NYCFC.

Yes, Skyler was a student at Long Island University in Brooklyn.

I'm an athletic trainer. So when you get your athletic training degree, you have to do a thousand hours of onpaid internship and basically the school places you at different rotations for different semesters.

She ended up working with NYCFC, which, you know, I think seemed like a good fit to her at the time.
