Summary

We've watched some truly insane movies for this podcast, but we've never experienced anything like The Wizard. There isn't one single aspect of this that makes a lick of sense - not the characters, their relationships, the dialogue, or even the way it handles video games. But the lunacy of it all is so much fun that the movie becomes incredibly watchable.

When this was released back in 1989, Nintendo was pretty much the biggest thing happening on the planet. So the film does provide a really interesting snapshot of that era. But it also gave us sooooo much more. Buckle up, friends. This movie is nuts.

Topics include: the most complicated backstory any family in any movie has ever had, the problem with Putnam's role in the story, the story beats stolen from Rain Man and Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, the freedom Nintendo gave the filmmakers, our childhood reactions to the reveal of Super Mario Bros 3, the bizarre origin story of Mario 2, the disappointing reality of the power glove, and much much more!
