The They came to die for the dragon queen, every last man of them.

But frankly, the first part was the important bit, whether it was for Rainier,

Lord Cregan Stark, their actual commander, Lord Roderick Dustin, the Winterwolves,

wanted to die in battle.

For the Dragon Queen was a bonus, as long as it was a good death, as long as it was a good

fight.

That's what mattered.

A memorable fall, one that folk of all walks of society would speak of for generations.

That was the goal.

And, well, it seems they achieved it.

Folk on a battlefield want glory and acclaim and regard and respect, but they also

want to live to survive, to talk about it afterwards, to enjoy the benefits of all those things,

but not these guys. Their goal was to be in death as they were in life. Wolves, howling pack,

not merely unafraid of death, but seeking it. They were hunting, not foes, but a good death against foes. It's not quite the same, is it?

They chose to die in battle rather than to winter or aging altogether very common ways to

go when you live in the North.

Those aren't ways to be memorialized in song though, dying that way.

But if you live a life filled with bravery, that's the type of death you want, a type of death

worthy of the North. These are not knights, these are wolves, these are the terror of the North.

These are men who have seen everything when it comes to blood and battle

and are ready for one last go.
