0:10.8	I'm Jensen Holt McNair. When you sit down to pray, what do you normally ask God for?
0:18.0	Well, every night we pray with my son before bed and he loves to name off different people that I can pray for.
0:24.0	I've caught on to his tactics, he's just trying to keep me in the room longer before bedtime,
0:29.3	the more people he can think of praying for the longer that I stay. I'm not a dummy. But I much
0:35.9	prefer this to the yelling or asking for a glass of water or for some fruit snacks.
0:41.2	Because it means I get to spend more time praying with Jude,
0:44.6	praying for our friends, for our family. What I've realized though, as I've been getting a lot of
0:50.1	extra prayer practice, is that when I pray for the people in our lives I'm usually
0:54.7	asking God to take care of them, to heal them, to get them home safely. We pray that our
1:00.0	friends can get healthy so we can go hang out with them again. We pray that dad
1:04.4	would get home from work safely so that we can see him again in the morning.
1:08.0	We pray that God would give us another day tomorrow to play and be kind and probably watch another episode or five of Bluey.
1:16.9	And look, I don't think there's anything wrong with praying for those things.
1:21.0	Spending time in prayer with my kid is a good thing.
1:23.4	Asking God for good gifts is a good thing.
1:26.7	But as I've been reading Psalm 71, I've been struck by one theme that I see woven throughout. Now we don't know for sure who
1:36.3	writes this Psalm, there's no superscript telling us, but we do know that this person
1:41.8	writing is a faithful servant of God who's currently facing adversaries
1:46.1	who are seeking his life.
1:48.1	And what we find in Psalm 71 is his prayer, his prayer to God in the midst of suffering. I want to read a large portion of
