Hi and welcome to the Christian Science Daily Lift. Today we'll hear from George Notwell,

a Christian science practitioner from Cyprus, Texas.

When I took my job with the State Department as a special agent, I always felt that no matter

where I go, no matter what I do, I'm with God, and I have his protection, as does everyone

else. And it's possible to experience it. I was in Central Asia in the mid-90s,

and there were incidents of Westerners and Americans being robbed.

There were home invasions, there was thefts,

there was just one after another of incidents.

And from the very beginning of my assignment,

I realized this is an opportunity for me to both humanly through my job,

but also spiritually through my relationship with God,

to overcome this challenge.

So every morning I would wake up, get ready for work, and I would sit down

and spend some time reading the Christian Science Bible lesson and praying for the day. And it's

really just a way to get your thought closer to God. So that whatever you're encountering during the day,

you have a frame of reference that's spiritual as to how to deal with the different

challenges of life. And so that's how I started this particular day off. But before I left

the house, I remembered that somebody in my family had a job interview

that day, and they had asked me to help support them in prayer. That day, I added at least another

half hour to that time.

Later that day, the local police come in and they bring a report that there had been a planned kidnapping of an American that morning.
