Summary

Wai Ting and Jordan Goodman are back with this month's edition of The Wellness Policy as they explore both the many benefits and trappings of social media.

They discuss their histories with early forms of social media dating back to the 90’s, what the popular Netflix documentary The Social Dilemma tells us about the way social media uses us today, and how we may be able to harness its advantages without succumbing to its many pitfalls. Plus, lots of time dedicated to your calls about the topic.

Next month, we’ll discuss the importance of play in our everyday lives. If you’d like, join Jordan and Wai in next month’s reading by having a look at Play: How it Shapes the Brain, Opens the Imagination, and Invigorates the Soul by Stuart Brown.

Welcome everybody to the June edition of The Wellness Policy.

0:25.4

My name is Wade Ting joined by Jordan Goodman, Jordan. How are you doing? Yes. I'm great. I'm

0:36.2

wonderful. I think the question really is way. How are you feeling right now? Well, I'm assuming

0:42.4

you're asking me that not just because it's a nice, you know, thing to do to a friend, but also

0:48.5

because I have recently less than 24 hours ago received my second shot of my COVID-19 vaccine,

0:56.1

and I'm very pleased. I mean, if you couldn't tell by my chipper attitude at the introduction of

1:01.0

this show, I just feel great. I mean, honestly though, it's not like, you know, maybe a bit of

1:07.0

assortance in my arm. I really don't feel anything. So, you know, hopefully I don't feel like

1:13.9

delayed effects come 24 hours afterwards, but so far so good. Well, you did mention I don't think

1:20.9

it's too much to say publicly. You've felt a bit of fatigue yesterday. Yeah, last night I felt

1:26.5

tired and I fell asleep as I was catching up on low key, which I mean, if you know my enthusiasm

1:31.4

for the show, I mean, might be a bit of a rare occurrence. Is that an indicator of like, you know,

1:37.2

vaccine symptoms falling asleep during an MCU show? But I mean, that could be as much as just

1:44.0

actually me being tired, you know? Yeah, I mean, I know the second dose I got, like I was heaviest

1:51.6

fuck for a good day and a half, and that kicked in maybe six or seven hours after the shot,

1:58.2

and then by day three, I was good as new. Yeah, it's interesting. It's interesting sharing our

2:04.2

like symptom experiences, you know, this is what we do now. Yeah, before it was like, oh,

2:11.2

man, like what did you do during the pandemic? How are you spending this time? Now it's like, oh,

2:15.7

what what what what did you feel after your second dose? I much prefer this conversation than the other

2:21.2

one. I tend to agree. It's one of the things in which we all, or at least many of us, are having

2:29.6

similar experiences in real time. Yeah. And again, you know, we kind of talked about it off

2:37.5

very yesterday, Jordan and I, but like maybe talk a little bit since this is the wellness policy.
