0:00.0 | For our listeners, let me just say today's show is one that is close to my heart, so let me just give you some quick backstory. |
0:09.2 | I recently was talking with someone about the Black Census Project at the Black Futures Lab. |
0:14.4 | And as you all know, who've been listening, the Black Census is the largest survey of black people in American history. |
0:20.6 | And in it, we ask respondents to talk |
0:22.6 | with us about the most pressing issues facing our communities today, and more importantly, what it is |
0:29.1 | that we should do about those challenges. In this year's survey, we ask about white nationalism. |
0:36.0 | Now, the person I was talking to shared that they thought that the most |
0:39.2 | important issues were education, health care, and housing. I said that the most important issues |

1:24.3 | maybe a guy in his basement with a bud light can. |
1:29.4 | Now imagine his surprise when I calmly explained that actually these groups were growing in size, diverse in participation demographically and especially age-wise, |
1:35.3 | and that over 100 current members of Congress have expressed white nationalist views. |
1:42.7 | But there's even more of a personal story to my guest today. In 2020, both of us |
1:48.2 | were targeted by the same white nationalist organization. I was visited at my home by the FBI on a |
1:54.6 | duty to warn visit, as apparently my name had been found on a list with others being targeted |
2:00.0 | across the country to die. |
