You're listening to KexP's The Weekly Mix, where each week we deliver a new set of curated music from the KexP universe. I'm Tia Ho. This week, I'm excited to present a mix featuring tracks hand-picked by KexP's Asian American DJs and staff in honor of our pushing boundaries celebration. This May, we're honoring Asian and Pacifica artists and their

contributions to our global music community. Growing out of the celebration of Asian Pacific

0:26.3

American Heritage Month, this year we're transcending borders and conceptions to explore the sounds

0:31.2

of the diaspora. Naturally, this takes more than a month, so these stories and of course the music,

0:36.3

will continue far beyond May.

0:38.4

KexP's Asian American staff decided to curate this episode to showcase the vast and varied

sounds being created at the hands of Asian and Pacifica artists across the world.

Without Pacific Islander, staff, or DJs, adequate representation was a challenge in this

mix, and will continue to be in our other

programming. However, we're excited to present a set that's truly just the tip of the iceberg.

You'll hear everyone from historical pioneers to contemporary innovators and local artists

shaping the Seattle scene. You'll hear sets from Mike Ramos, Weiwei, Janice Headley, and

1:09.9

Isabelle Cali Lee. Now I have the great honor of

1:12.9

kicking off an incredible episode of the weekly mix. First up, I've got a song from Leaving Records

1:18.4

artist Yuck. Oasis of Light is one of the brighter tracks on the Peraiso EP, but the whole release

1:24.4

is filled with gorgeous, hazy ambient arrangements.

1:32.3

Yuck is a musical project by a chef of Filipino descent, Chad Valencia.

1:36.9

He and his brother, Chase, owned the Filipino eatery Lhasa in Los Angeles.

1:43.4

And for anyone who speaks to Gallag, I'm told quite a few tracks on Perisso are Filipino food puns.

1:45.8

After that, you'll hear Take Two,

1:51.3

which finds two Seattle-born artists joining forces for a song that never fails to get me dancing.

1:57.8

Chong the Nomad, who's of Indonesian descent, and Hollis, who is of Chinese descent, have long been a boon to Seattle's music scene. This collaboration unites their energies for a warm, infectious pop-leaning beggar.
