Hello there, friends. You're listening to the weekly mix where each week a K-E-XP DJ,

0:06.1

a.k.a. me, brings you an exclusive set of their favorite new music. You can always listen to K-EXP

0:12.5

live on the airwaves in Seattle at 90.3 FM, or worldwide, k-E-XP.org, or via the K-E--exp mobile app, which you can download for free wherever you get

0:24.1

your app served. And hello, my name is Abby. And if we haven't met before, you can normally

0:31.3

find me hiding in the darkness every Wednesday, 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. Pacific time. Here where the music

0:37.4

matters. And I'm excited to

0:39.9

take you on a little trip with me. I call this novel do-hicky, a virtual road trip to Vancouver,

0:45.8

B.C. And ever since I was little, I love to plot myself in front of the TV, watching MTV specifically, watching music videos at 2am and reading through Spin magazine and just daydreaming about how I wanted to visit every music scene possible.

1:03.8

I just wanted to go to a city, see the bands that I love from there, and I've spent most of my 20s doing that, including living in

1:13.2

music scenes such as Minneapolis, Glasgow, and also visiting Berlin and Estonia, Denmark, just

1:20.8

trying to immerse myself in discovering new music there. And in the Pacific Northwest, we are so spoiled here and especially spoiled up in

1:30.7

Vancouver, BC, which has kind of become a home away from home. It's kind of become this place

1:38.1

where I went to explore music and ended up finding so many lifelong friends. And I originally

1:45.9

hoped to record this podcast actually up in Vancouver at my partner's place. But sadly,

1:53.4

due to increased travel restrictions, I'm unable to cross the border at this time. So it's been a

2:00.6

little difficult for me, but I did get a couple months exempt to visit.

2:06.2

And I just am recording this now from Seattle instead.

2:11.3

But I hope to do my best in celebrating the music that I love out of Vancouver, BC. I love this community so much.

2:19.8

And this is just a snapshot of all of the amazing work that is coming out of there right now.

2:27.3

And you're going to hear a lot in this first set. So I hope you're prepared for Yusu,

2:33.6

Shadei Owele. I am the Living in Tion Gibbs, Biawana, and we're going to kick things off with this wonderful collaboration between TRS and Mr. Steve.

2:44.9

Late in 2020, they dropped restless, and it's full of warm, nostalgic samples and just great emotive vocals.
