Summary

We are smack dab in the middle of December and I don’t know about you, but during this season I often feel like I am the only mom coming up short in a world full of moms who have everything together. It’s times like these that I am so grateful for my sobriety. 


My sobriety is deeply rooted in motherhood, so today I’m going to share a bit about my parenting philosophy - Half Ass. Whole Heart. 


The goal of parenting isn’t to strive for Pinterest perfection. It’s to be a safe, steady place for our kids. And for me, sobriety is the key.

There was a time after my daughter was born when my thoughts got so dark that I couldn't see a way forward.

The thing is, it wasn't postpartum depression, like you might initially think.

It was OCD, obsessive, compulsive disorder.

It's a serious condition that can be incredibly debilitating. OCD involves relentless,

unwanted, distressing thoughts called intrusive thoughts that latch onto things we care about the most,

thoughts hit, people with OCD often feel driven to do

mental or physical behaviors, replaying conversations, avoiding places or people, following rigid

routines, just to try to cope with the anxiety. It's exhausting and it can take over your life.

It's also why OCD so often goes hand in hand with alcohol use.
