Summary

In this Weekend Pulpit message, Scott continues his study in Acts 11 and explores the unlikely rise of the church in Antioch. Using the church's story as a model, he shows how the gospel advances when the Lord is central to a congregation and when believers pass along what they have received. Scott examines Acts 11:19–24, highlighting four marks of what happens when the Lord "comes to town": the moving of the Lord, the turning to the Lord, the adding to the church, and the cleaving to the Lord. this morning one of increasingly my favorite churches. It is the church in the city of Antioch. And might I just say

Antioch was a most unlikely place. It was a wicked, worldly place. It was not a place that men would

have chosen and said, that's a city now. That's going to change the world. In fact, everybody really thought that was Jerusalem.

But from Jerusalem, the gospel has now advanced to Antioch, and praise God Antioch when they got it,

If you keep it to yourself, you'll be like that body of water where we were with your pastor and his

1:42.9

Dead Sea is not that living things don't come into it. The problem of the Dead Sea is that nothing ever goes out of it, and life always becomes death when it's kept to itself. You want to have a living church? I'll tell you how to have a living church. It's not just about the pastor giving good sermons on the Lord's Day. It's about taking the life that you receive and passing it on to somebody else. And when you become a channel for the grace and truth of Jesus, when you become a tributary for the mercy of our God, I tell you in the authority of the Word of God, God will keep your church alive and will sustain it with strength. And the church at Antioch and the city of Antioch is proof of

that. And so we come back to our text. Look at Acts chapter number 11 now, verse 19, they which
