I bring you now to the opening verses of 2 Timothy chapter number 2.

It's interesting to me how much family language there is in scripture.

Before we read, would you lift you head and look at me just a minute.

Years ago, I had a Bible teacher that used to talk about his spiritual fathers.

Have you ever heard that term before?

Now, Jesus said, called no man father, right?

Call no man master. That was to the Pharisees. The idea behind that was that no one must take the place that God alone should have in our life. But it did not mean by that that you don't call your dad

dad or that you wouldn't have somebody who pours in your life that is a spiritual

mentor and father to you or that servants wouldn't have masters.

That wasn't the point at all.

He wasn't removing relationships.

He was refining those relationships.
