| 0:00.0 | Hello and welcome to The Week Junior Show. I'm Bex and I'm joined by writers Joe and Eve from The Week Junior, the magazine Making Sense of the World for 8 to 14-year-olds. |
| 0:12.1 | In a week where the Deaf Olympics began and World Children's Day was observed, we're going to be talking about some of the other stories that inspired and entertained the week junior team. |
| 0:21.3 | So make sure you're listening closely because at the end of this episode, we'll be asking |
| 0:24.6 | a question about what you've heard. And if you answer it correctly, you could win a prize. |
| 0:29.8 | Now, this week's a very special one because the week junior is celebrating its 10th birthday. |
| 0:34.6 | So happy birthday to the week junior. I want to know. Thank you very much, Eve. |
| 0:39.5 | Correct. We should give it that level of appreciation. Come on now, Joe. Have you been celebrating in style? |
| 0:44.9 | Yeah, we have. We have. We absolutely have. And as part of our celebrations, we've been asking some friends of the week junior to share some advice that they would give to their 10-year-old selves. |
| 0:57.8 | I think you might have been one of those, Bex. |
| 1:00.1 | I was honoured to be asked, actually. Yeah, yeah, thank you. |
| 1:02.8 | And it was difficult to think, what would I tell my 10-year-old self? |
| 1:06.4 | When I was 10 and, let's face it, 5 to 15, I hated maths and science. So my advice to my past self was actually ask for help. Don't just think you can just struggle through. Ask for some help in math and science. And if you're listening and there's a subject in particular that you're not a fan of, ask a teacher because they'll be more than happy to help you out. So yeah, that was my advice. Eve, what would you say to your 10-year-old self? I would probably say that it's okay to be different and have different interests to everyone else because it makes you interesting. And one day you'll meet people who love the same things that you do. Oh, that's very nice. Joe, how about you? I'd say, I'd say just try stuff. Don't be scared that it won't go well. Don't necessarily even worry that you're not going to enjoy something because the only way to learn what you like is to get out there and do things. Just give them a go. Try everything once, you know, and then you'll work out what works for you. Where was this advice when I was 10 years old? That would have been perfect. |
| 2:01.5 | Great advice, guys. |
| 2:02.4 | Thank you. |
| 2:02.8 | You've also had a few other people get in touch, Joe. |
| 2:05.0 | Yeah, we received advice from lots more brilliant people besides you, Bex, including |
| 2:12.0 | scientist Maggie Adarin Pocock, actor and author Rose Ailing Ellis, and poet Michael Rosen. |
| 2:18.8 | So you can look out for their answers on page 18 and 19 of this week's magazine. |
| 2:24.9 | And here's a sneak peek of some of those answers now. |
| 2:28.3 | So we've got an answer here from actor George Webster. |
| 2:31.7 | The advice I like to give to my 10 years young self |
| 2:35.0 | is to keep being new because you're awesome. |
