Summary

On this week’s episode of The Waves, we start with a conversation with upcoming Slow Burn: Roe v Wade host, Susan Matthews and Slate senior producer Cheyna Roth about the implications of the recently leaked Supreme Court opinion overturning Roe.

In the main show, we shift focus to gender violence as the Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard trial continues. Cheyna sits down with Dr. Nicole Bedera about what happens when fans try to play detective and how we should actually be talking to victims of violence. Later in the show they talk about Men’s Rights Activists and the broader implications of suing people who accuse someone of assault.

In Slate Plus, is Mother’s Day feminist?

Podcast production by Cheyna Roth with editorial oversight by Shannon Palus and Alicia Montgomery.

to talk about what's going on with abortion. On Monday night, Politico released an exclusive

titled Supreme Court has voted to overturn abortion rights draft opinion shows. The leaked

1:05.2

initial draft of a majority opinion authored by Justice Samuel Alito shows that the court

1:10.2

does indeed intend to overturn the landmark case Roe versus Wade. Roe is the case that

1:16.9

essentially granted a right to an abortion in the United States. This is something that

1:21.7

we have been expecting. But to see the intentions of the court laid bare in this draft opinion

1:28.1

that wasn't supposed to be released somehow still feels worse than we were preparing for.

1:35.8

There's a lot of great coverage on this across the Slate site, including a piece by Dahlia

To briefly talk through all this right now is Susan Matthews. Susan is currently working
