Whenever someone would ask what he did for a living he would smile, puff up

his chest and say it loud and clear.

He was a humble man who knew how to sharpen knives just as quickly as he could do math in his head.

Mom told me much later, long after he had passed, that he never learned how to read.

As a kid, I thought everyone knew how, and I found it strange how he knew so many stories.
