Summary
Today we’re talking about a quiet power grab that most Americans won’t see until it’s too late: states moving to weaken—or outright override—your locally elected sheriff. Sheriffs answer to you, the voters, and that’s exactly why they’re being targeted.
I’m joined by Pierce County Sheriff Keith Swank to break down Washington’s Senate Bill 5974 and what it would really do: give unelected state bodies the power to disqualify, decertify, and effectively remove sheriffs the people chose. This isn’t about “standards.” It’s about who holds authority—citizens, or bureaucrats.
Also—quick update from Olympia: we recently showed up to push back on a major homeschool regulation bill, and by God’s grace, it was stopped in committee. Freedom isn’t free, and God’s people have to show up.

| 0:27.5 | age of compulsory education in Washington from eight to six. But there was also language in the |
| 0:33.6 | bill that would have created a burden on parents. It would have set them up for possible truancy charges. |
| 0:40.2 | I mean, I'm thinking back to the 1980s when people like my friend, |
| 0:43.4 | Zan Tyler, face truancy charges. |
| 0:45.1 | It would have required that parents submit a year, |
| 0:49.5 | submit their plan for learning for their child two years in advance of homeschooling. Now, the state argued that |
| 0:57.0 | this was about money on one level, on the other level. They said the quiet part out loud. |
| 1:03.8 | You heard the sponsoring Senator, Senator Wellman, talk about how they really wanted to know |
| 1:08.8 | where your children were. Well, guess what? |
| 1:11.3 | It's none of your business where my children are. |
| 1:13.6 | It's none of your business. |
| 1:15.1 | And homeschoolers are doing just fine in Washington State. |
| 1:19.3 | And so we wanted the state of Washington to get their hands off homeschooling. |
| 1:23.7 | That was the theme that we decided on along with my friends at the Washington |
| 1:27.9 | homeschool organization and also HSLDA huge shout out to the who for securing a place |
| 1:35.8 | for us to meet on the steps of the Capitol on Wednesday ahead of that hearing and |
