Summary

Today's readings pose a question: how are we tending the vineyard? We have received so much from God, but are we making the world fruitful? Are we responding to the Lord’s invitation with the works of justice, love, peace, chastity, respect for others? Or are we more or less killing the messengers?

frequently and with a clearly critical intent very often. Anyway that's one of

1:12.0

my pet peeves about religion today as we tend just to shy away from this side

1:17.2

of the Bible. You know, we'll emphasize all the kind of nice uplifting you know

1:22.4

positive elements but when the Bible gets kind of dark and sharp edge we back

1:27.6

away or we explain it away. Don't do that. We have to hang in there with it and

1:32.4

let the Bible maybe cut us a little bit you know. So we're looking at our first

1:38.8

reading at the prophet Isaiah and here's the background I think Israel indeed

1:47.1

is the chosen people of God. So let's clear in the whole Bible his love has

1:53.0

been lavished upon Israel. He's given them the law and the prophets and the

2:00.2

covenants and liberation from slavery. He set them up as a standard for all the

2:06.4

nations of the world. That's what it means to be the chosen people of God. But see
