To overcome means to override something

that is seeking to override you.

Some of us are overridden by circumstances.

They seem overwhelming.

Others of us are overridden by sins,

trapped in things that are ungodly that we can't get out of.

Some of us are overridden by emotions

that wants to dictate how we function,

and they are seeking to override us, to defeat us.

But what John wants to say today is that if you are a Christian you have been positioned to be an

overcomer and not to live your life being overcome. The state of every believer is that you are an

overcomer, but the experience of overcoming having been made and overcoma,

may still have escaped you.
