Rider Megan Day. Hello Megan. Hi, Micah. So we're talking to Matt Karp today, who is a Civil War historian, and he has an article in

catalyst from the Summer 2019 issue, which is out from behind the paywall on the catalyst

website I'll link to it in the description of this episode but Matt's article is a really fascinating one.

It's about, it's called the Mass Politics of Anti-Slavery,

and it's about how we got rid of slavery in the United States, which is for probably reasons I don't need to explain

the listener is a really central thing to understand in American history.

But also reading the article, it's so clear there's so many lessons from the

construction of a mass politics to destroy slavery for those of us today who are trying to affect radical change and you know

move mountains to get rid of you know awful institutions that make our lives miserable.

I thought Matt's article had a ton to speak to us today about how we go about doing

radical politics in the 21st century.

Yeah, and I think that you don't have to be a civil war nerd to appreciate Matt's article or to appreciate this episode.
