We're going to dive a lot into his life. Like his entire backstory is just disturbing, surreal.

all right, guys, this is episode 576 of going west.

So let's get into it. In the late 1970s, Sacramento, California residents were terrified by a string of bizarre and gruesome

killings, committed in quick succession. The assailants seemed to have no clear connection to his victims,

but his behavior at the scenes pointed to an unsettling obsession with blood

and the insatiable desire to keep killing. These are the murders by Richard Chase,

also known as the Vampire of Sacramento.

The Vampire of Sacramento. Richard Chase was born on May 23, 1950, to parents Beatrice and Richard Sr. in Sacramento,

California, and he was later joined by a younger sister named Pamela.

By all accounts, Richard had a very typical upbringing for that time period,

wherein his father was strict, controlling, and even physically abusive.

Yeah, just kind of that throwback to the 1950s aggressive dad era.
