Today I'm going to show you where Airbnb is going.

But before I do, I want to take you back to the year 2007.

Alright, imagine this.

It's 2007.

You're in San Francisco.

Two broke friends, Brian Chesky and Joe Gabbya are staring at their rent notice.

$1,150.

Dude, no jobs, no investors, just a busted apartment and a dream.

And then they hear about a design conference in town.

Hotels, they're all booked up.

That's when the idea hits.

So they're thinking to themselves, what if we rent out our living room with some air

mattresses and serve breakfast? That was it. That was air bed and breakfast. Y'all don't even

know what Airbnb stood for, but it's air bed and breakfast. So not a business plan, not a startup,

just survival, trying to get their rent paid.

Now let's Ruan.

Brian Chesky, born in New York, was always a dreamer. He'd draw sneakers, furniture,

and buildings as a kid. He believed that design could change the world.

He went to the Rhode Island School of Design where he met Joe Gebbia.

Now, Joe was the opposite, right?

A scrappy hustler in college, he tried selling animal-shaped furniture.

That didn't work.
