Summary

On this weeks episode of the pod, we are talking about the government's role in healthcare and health-related policies. We sat down with America's government teacher, Sharon McMahon, to dig into the United States of Science! We talk about some pivotal cases that came before the Supreme Court and the implications of their rulings. We discuss whether the vaccine mandates are constitutional and the controversy surrounding them. We spend some time discussing legislation that is not science-based and the dangers of science-related policies being passed without credible evidence to support them. This was an extremely important conversation and we hope you'll tune in! Interested in advertising with us? And this week, we're doing something a little different.

0:35.0

So the first part of the episode, Andrea and I are going to kind of

0:40.2

set the stage and air some of our grievances with the fact that policies are often set and passed

0:51.7

that impact our health and sort of relate to science. However, scientists are not

1:00.3

consulted and a lot of the policymaking is actually based on misinformation and pseudoscience.

1:06.9

And we have a lot to say on this topic. And then for the second part of the episode, we are going to share a fireside chat that we recorded previously with the amazing Sharon McMahon, who everyone knows. She's Sharon says so on social media. She earned a reputation as America's government teacher.

1:29.6

And we had a really fantastic conversation with her about government and policymaking.

1:36.1

I think you'll really enjoy that conversation. So let's just take a step back for a second, Andrea.

1:44.5

I think I sort of just gave a little, a high-level introduction to some of our frustrations.

1:50.0

But we have several examples.

1:52.5

And we've done posts on these things, of course.

1:54.7

But it's worth sort of pulling it together to speak to this, you know, overarching issue, which is science,

2:03.7

at least science adjacent policies not being informed or, you know, not being passed in

2:11.4

consultation with actual scientists. So I know there are a few examples we want to raise. Where do you

2:17.2

want to start?

2:18.0

First, maybe we can start with some of the policies based on chemophobia, perhaps.

2:25.9

And I think, you know, it's important.

2:27.8

It's always worth reiterating for people that different governments around the world legislate

and have policies in place that are based on
