When the news broke last week that Trevor Noah, the host of the Daily Show

on Comedy Central, would step down after seven years in the job. I'm betting there was a big

chunk of people out there, comedy fans who were like, uh, Comedy Central still exists? It does

exist. And though the network is a pretty sad shell of its former self. I'm old enough to remember when South Park premiered in 1997.

It was a show that was passed on everywhere because it was way too raunchy.

Yet it found a home and became incredibly successful at Comedy Central.

Over the years, the network has had Chappelle's show, Reno 9-1-1, Tosh Point O, Politically Incorrect with Bill Marr, Mystery Science

Theater 3,000, Win Ben Stein's Money, an eclected group, but all shows that were unique and found

an audience.

I feel like in the mid-2000s when John Stewart took over the Daily Show, and then with Colbert

Report and others, Comedy Central really mattered.

Fun shows, stand-up specials where you felt

like you were discovering people, legitimate players in late night. Cut to today, it's almost

entirely Seinfeld and office reruns. The Daily Show is still there. That show generated about

$25 million in revenue for the first six months of 2022, according to Cantar Media.
