Good morning. Today, here the US is Thanksgiving Day. I'm sure you know by now

that this is my favorite holiday of all. On this day instead of only thinking about what you are thankful for, I want you to think

the other way around. Let me explain. So Ms. Klein taught first grade in a tough part of town.

The Wednesday before heading into Thanksgiving holiday

she asked the class to draw a picture of something that they were grateful for. It

made her sad to think of how little these children who lived in such a deteriorating

neighborhood actually had to be thankful

for.

Even still, she knew that most of the class would draw pictures of turkeys or bountiful laden

Thanksgiving tables.

That is what they believed what was expected of them.

What took Mrs. Klein aback was Douglas's picture.

Douglas was a shy and forlorn and he was most often found in her shadow as the rest of the class went outside for recess.

Douglas' drawing was simply this, a hand.

Not a hand to make a turkey, just a hand.

Whose hand?

She asked Douglas in front of the class.

Whose hand is this?

Douglas pressed his chin to his chest, other classmates,

started to guess on his behalf.
