In the time it takes to get to work. I'm Keith Simon.

Okay, so we've been going through the gospel of Mark, and we're getting near the end.

0:18.2

In today's passage, Jesus is crucified. Everything has been building up to

0:22.6

this moment. And as I read this passage in Mark 15, I want you to listen to how the crucifixion

0:28.5

is described. We start in verse 21. A certain man from Cyrene, Simon, the father of Alexander and

0:36.0

Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the

Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying,

So, you who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, come down from the cross

1:17.2

and save yourself. In the same way, the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him

among themselves. He saved others, they said, but he can't save himself. Let this Messiah, this king of Israel,

1:28.8

come down now from the cross that we may see and believe. Those crucified with him also heaped

1:34.5

insults on him. So I asked you to pay attention to how the crucifixion is described. But really,

1:41.1

that was kind of a trick question, because there really is no description of the

1:45.1

crucifixion. It just says in verse 24, and they crucified him. That's it. Mark doesn't give

1:51.5

any description of Jesus' physical suffering. I expected more than that, didn't you? Don't you

1:57.7

find yourself wanting to know more? Why is it so brief? Why not more specifics? Why not a detailed
