I started walking for fitness in 2013.

Still take an intentional fitness walk every single day. I'm walking right now, and I would love to have you join me for the next 10 minutes.

One of my favorite, famous people who walk examples is Harry Truman. He was a U.S. president from April

1945 until January 1953. Before he was president, he was vice president. Before that, he was a U.S.

Senator. He started walking regularly for fitness, for exercise in the military.

As a young man, he developed the trait of walking vigorously at 120 paces a minute.

By my calculations, that's about three and a half miles an hour.

And he continued walking, I think, most days.

I don't know if he did it every day,

but he did it consistently throughout his entire adult life.

As a U.S. Senator, he would walk around Capitol Hill, largely unrecognized, same as vice president.

When he became president following the death of Franklin Roosevelt,

obviously his recognition factor grew quite a bit, and it was hard for Harry Truman to walk anywhere unrecognized.

Even after he retired and moved back to Independence, Missouri, Harry Truman, former President

Harry Truman continued his consistent walking. He would walk for about 30 minutes each day.

There are things about Harry Truman and me and probably you that are so different when it comes to walking. For example, this morning, I left the

house. It was dark. it was quiet.

I soaked in how it felt, looked at the sky, still pre-sunrise, all the stars.
