Summary

This week’s case is brought to us by a Housewives of True Crime listener (Thanks, Drema!), and it's certainly a doozy. Our story begins in Haiti with a young doctor and his flame Betsy. While their romance was classic young love, Jean-Claude moved to New York, where he worked as an ER doctor and married a woman named Eliette in 1980.

“Her and Jean-Claude got on like peas and carrots, right? The whole medical thing, Haitian culture in common…” – Gretchen (10:20)

While they lived in Long Island, Jean-Claude occasionally stayed at their apartment in Brooklyn to sleep after a long shift. Well, that’s what he told Eliette. He was living a double life, and Betsy, the flame from all those years ago, was his other wife and living in Jersey with their children. For 17 years, he kept this secret, but after he was hit by a car in 1999 and passed about a month later, the truth came to light, and Jean-Claude’s brother stepped in demanding money for the funeral.

“Well Eliette was like, ‘Kick rocks, Aly! Because I can’t afford that. I actually don’t know up from down right now financially.’” – Gretchen (20:14)

What ensued after is a wild tale of family drama, betrayal, attempted murder, and mayhem…

Hey, disco biscuits and disco walls. This is tab and I just want to apologize in advance for the

0:06.1

recording here with all the hustle and bustle and trying to not miss one week because we never do.

0:13.9

I had some technical issues and my recording sounds a little busy, not the drunk kind, but the

0:23.5

annoying buzz in your ear kind. So I promise it'll get better next episode. Keep on listening.

0:30.0

But bear with me on this one and happy 2023 guys.

0:52.2

Okay, and I am Gretchen. I like white wine, true crime, and in bed by nine because I have a lot

0:59.5

Mary post Christmas. And I think when this airs, it'll be happy new year. Happy new year.

1:38.2

But we're recording one week early. So we just had Christmas yesterday. I know. I wasn't planning,

1:44.9

well, before the last time we recorded, I wasn't planning on seeing you at all when you were in

1:48.9

California. And then I saw you twice. It was actually a Christmas miracle. It really was.

1:55.0

I spent more time with you than I spent with anybody actually. I feel so special.

2:01.0

That actually is sad because that's kind of true about life. I feel it's true. We spend more time

2:07.6

like talking to each other than our own significant others. Well, that's true because they work.

2:13.6

So not that we don't work, but we have to also talk, we have to talk to each other for work.

2:19.4

We work together. But it was a real good time. It was a real good time. I put lots of pictures that

2:28.8

people saw. Yeah, we found a group of sandas in the Ventura. That dude Ventura is weak sauce. Okay,

2:38.0

let me tell you. Oh my god. You're going to be defending people. No, it's just that where was the

2:46.4

party man. I know. It was like shut down. Well, it was cold that night. I will say. And Ventura
