Hi everybody I'm hiding under the table again because unlike the folks who are coming to

execute us in Lebanon and we escape to come to Canada, the ones who are coming after me now are way way

scarier. I'm not kidding. Earlier today I posted the following thread very

very offensive. Look how offensive it is. You ready? I'm

going to meet my glasses. I'm going to speak slowly because I don't want them to

catch me under the table because I've done something really horrible. You ready?

My wife walked up to the server at our local cafe. The person was

possibly transgender.

She wanted to engage the individual but was frozen in fear

that she might use a pronoun that might offend.

Therein lies the problem with this language policing.

It takes perfectly natural social situations

and in the quest to not offend an extraordinary small minority

who of course deserve to live fully dignified lives like anyone else.

Everyone is walking on ech shells.

Fighting for a world free of bigotry does not imply that we must suppress perfectly natural

categorization mechanisms that are built into our brains and our languages.

I can be free of bigotry without being compelled to celebrate your unique personhood.

Oh my God, that was so bad, I mean, it's indistinguishable from Hitler. So I'm saying that my wife in her desire to be

empathetic was concerned that she would say something offensive. Did you hear that? In her quest to not offend, that's what the story is about. And I

reiterate that all people should live free of bigotry, but because of this constant language policing people are afraid to

interact with each other you would think that that's a nice message it turns
