Located deep in the low country, Bluffton is straight out of that old southern antebellum type crack.

You got the Spanish moss, you got the good old boys, you got the yes ma'am, you got the murder, y'all, you got the usual.

These days the jewel of south central Beaufort County, close to Savannah, Georgia, is home to around 30,000 folk,

primarily rich and retired, though it is growing quickly of late.

You know, therefore the crime rate is low, it's actually the second safest city in the state,

though this story will disoad you of any notions of safety.

And sure didn't it all begin in the autumn of 2015.

The weather was cooling, things once green now turning to yellow and red,

and just before Halloween on October 28, 2015,

this 911 call came in to the Bluffton Police Department.

911, where's your emergency?

It's a 3-9 Pine Crest Way.

He said 3-9 Pine Cressway?

Yes, ma'am.

What's going on there?

I don't know this in shooting. I one is shooting. I'm not inside.

Something's inside.

This call came in just after 1 a.m. from 39 Pinecrest Way.

The caller had just seen their good friend, Jonathan Sherrill, shot to death right in front of them.

Racing to the home, arriving there minutes after that call, police found two people still alive inside the home. One was the caller, the victim's friend, the other was the victim's roommate.
