Today's episode is another rerun of one of our all-time favorites.

It's a conversation that originally aired in June 2023.

Don't worry, I'm going to catch you up because I needed some notes to remind me what the

hell was going on in June 23.

That was like three apocalyps ago.

But it is worth it because it's a conversation

with my longtime friend, professor, New York Times bestselling author and editor, Roxanne Gay. I love her so

much. We've been friends for years now. I actually got to know her through Isaac Fitzgerald,

another friend of the show.

And it was actually our first time having a guest. Roxanne was the first vibe check interview.

So what we talked about was really a lot of television, how Roxanne came of age via television when she was finally allowed to watch it at all.

It's fun here learning about the characters that shaped who she is today.

And she makes a really good case for why soap operas are so important.

And I've been thinking about that a lot because a lot of soap operas are going away.

And also, because this was June 2023, we also talk about the Writers Guild of America's

Strike that went on from May,

2020, to September of that year, and what it meant and still means for black women in writers' rooms.
