Hello, hello, you. Today we are going to be doing an episode on Fluently Forward all about

the thriller TV series You, which is so fun to watch and so hard to bring up in conversation.

It's like when you say that you got a pair of jeans and you got them from guests and your friend

goes, where did you get your jeans and you go guess? And they go, I don't know, where did you get them? And you go guess. You get the point. But honestly, maybe it's tongue and cheek because when somebody says, oh, what are you watching right now? And you say, you, it kind of goes along with the theme of the show, which follows Penn Badgley as this creepy stalker who you sometimes like, but then sometimes hate. And then most of the times

you like him and then Penn Badgley and all of his castmates, as we learn about in this episode,

end up doing interviews where they're like, that's really weird how everybody's in love with the guy

who's like choking, strangling, brutalizing woman almost every second on screen. So we're going to

talk about all of that and more.

But for today's episode, we are going to cover the background of the show, how it got started,

a little rundown of each of like the female leads from each season, who is the love interest

slash horrible victim of Penn Badgley, who is Joe Goldberg in the show. We'll talk about the blind items,

based on books who were written by Carolyn Kempst. The first season of the show is based on

the novel, You. It first premiered on Lifetime, and it follows Joe Goldberg, who's played by

Penn Badgley, and he is a bookstore manager and serial killer who falls in love with

different women each season and develops this extreme obsession and ends up usually

kind of harming them in some way. The series then moved to Netflix, which I think was such a good
