The newsroom at WGRC, Indianapolis, was unusually quiet for a late night.

The fluorescent lights buzzed softly overhead, and the distant hum of computer monitors filled the air.

Ben Reed, a seasoned TV reporter, sat at his desk, nursing a cup of lukewarm coffee,
