0:00.0 | Hey, this is Buck Sexton, and you're listening to the Tudor Dixon podcast part of the Clay Traverse and Buck Sexton podcast network. |
0:08.8 | Welcome to the Tudor Dixon podcast. I am so glad you're here today because I am joined by Julie Kelly, an author and investigative journalist who is known for her unique and breaking news coverage. |
0:20.9 | Whether it's the COVID-19 lockdowns, January 6, or the many indictments against Donald Trump, Julie has covered some of the most pivotal |
0:29.8 | moments in recent political history. And she has a particular affinity for rooting out and exposing the weaponization and corruption occurring in our government, which we seem to be seeing more of every single day, particularly at the DOJ and FBI. |
0:44.8 | And as we sit here on the morning of the first Republican primary debate for president, I want to thank Julie for joining me as we dig into some of that recent reporting |
0:55.8 | and how she thinks that's going to impact this 2024 race for president. Julie, thanks so much for being here. |
1:01.9 | A Tudor, thanks for having me on joining you from the other side of Lake Michigan. So thanks for having me on. |
1:09.3 | Well, thank you for joining me from that side. It's a beautiful lake. We're very blessed to be in this area of the country. |
1:17.2 | You're there because something really big is happening today. And that is the debate for the next Republican nominee for president of the United States. |
1:27.6 | But one of those people is not going to be there. We all know that the former president, Donald Trump, has said he's not going to be there. |
1:35.4 | I mean, I think there's still some debate as to whether or not he may just show up at the last minute because he is someone that is always unpredictable. |
1:43.1 | That's one thing that we know about Donald Trump, for sure, is that you don't know what he's ever going to do. |
1:48.1 | But you know a lot about what he's going through right now. And that is for for indictments. |
1:54.9 | Can you explain? I think that one of the things that people have been asking me a lot about is, what does this one in Georgia mean? |
2:02.2 | Because we seem, we've kind of unpacked this and said, if they convict him, how does he get out of that? |
2:09.1 | There's no federal pardon. There's no gubernatorial pardon there. How does that work? |
2:14.4 | You know, it looks like in terms of the Georgia indictment that it's going to be difficult. |
2:19.2 | And we already see that former chief of staff, Mark Meadows, has filed a motion to move this to federal court. |
2:25.8 | I think successfully arguing that he was a federal employee at the time that Georgia really has no purview over trying to criminally charge him, which they've already done. |
2:36.5 | So I assume that Donald Trump will be doing the same thing. I see some legal observers, some fair ones on our side, feeling pretty certain that these local county state charges won't stick against the federal employees, Mark Meadows, |
2:52.3 | possibly Jeffrey Clark, who was the acting deputy assistant attorney general at the time, and certainly Donald Trump. |
2:59.0 | We know she has no purview over this. |
