Up until then, it had actually been incredibly mundane, right?

It was one of those small obscure boards that only people who are deeply invested in

elections and election law had any interest in or any involvement in.

The year before Donald Trump had claimed the presidential election in

Georgia had been a fraud. He tried to overturn it. And Sarah might not have known it, but

his supporters had marked out her election board as a target for a takeover.

So there was an open position for chair at that point, but I clearly had no conception of where we would wind up. One week out from a US presidential election, the polls show is a dead heat. The results might come down to Georgia. But the results in Georgia

could be delayed, contested and ultimately challenged by the very people

meant to be protecting the right to vote.
