It's been a tradition in American politics for more than a century.

The political parties hold their conventions every four years, and before nominating a candidate

for president, they adopt the platform that outlines where they stand on the issues of

the day and the message they want to present to the American public.

But the Republican Party is now broken with that tradition.

In a remarkable statement that it released on the eve of its 2020 convention, the Republican

National Committee revealed that it would forego adopting a platform this year entirely.

It would be too difficult for the delegates to debate and vote on one given the COVID

epidemic the party said.

So instead, the Republican Party simply reaffirmed what has been clear for some time.

The RNC, quote, enthusiastically supports President Trump, the statement read, and, quote,

continues to reject the policy positions of the Obama Biden administration, as well as

those espoused by the Democratic National Committee.

In short, the Republican Party has now officially become what its sharpest critics have long

said.

The GOP is simply the party of Donald Trump.

Nothing more, nothing less, principles and positions be damned.
