Hey, good morning. It's Paige Browning. It's Thursday. This is Seattle Now.

Today, we're going to take you on a walk in Seattle's Georgetown neighborhood and talk about

the wonders of Seattle's trees and the power of even just noticing them.

It's kind of like this magic, this magic portal, or at least it was every time I took one of these

walks.

I'll talk with author Taha Abrahemi in a minute, but first, let's get you caught up.

A Seattle City Council Committee will consider new legislation today aimed at increasing the number of sworn officers in the city.

Among other things, the plan creates a new retention and recruitment program at SPD using existing staff from the city's

Department of Human Resources. Council staff say investments in police officer recruitment

have not resulted in an increase in hiring. The NFL draft starts today and the Seahawks

are on the clock with the 16th pick. The Seahawks finished 9 and 8 last year, but failed to make the playoffs, so they got a bit of work to do under new head coach Mike McDonald.

The Hawks have seven total picks that they'll be making between today and Saturday.

And how about a movie?

The Seattle Black Film Festival starts today, look for screenings at the Langston Hughes Performing Art Institute, and Washington Hall in the Central District.

And Cascadia Women's Film Festival also opens today in Bellingham.
