Writer director Darren Naranowski has followed his protagonists who keep fighting through harrowing circumstances to keep their inner spirits alive,

in films from his debut, Pi, to films such as Black Swan and The Whale, which won Oscars for their stars.

His newest film, Caught Stealing,

is an action comedy swaddled in the director's themes.

For the treat, he connects it to a Martin Scorsese comedy

with which it shares elements.

I just realized while I was starting to do press that Griffin Dunn in my movie is named Paul.

He runs Paul's Bar.

And a journalist just pointed out that in after hours,

Martin Scorsese's film, the characters named Paul as well.

And I was kind of stunned that I didn't know that.
