October 31, 1986. Long Beach, New York.

I am WICE, a 15-year-old orthodox Jewish student at the Aschiva High School, attend

Shabbat services and returns to his dormitory. The following morning, I am's body is found

on his dorm room floor. At some point during the night, someone entered his room and brutally

murdered him while he slept. Police conduct an extensive investigation, interview students

and faculty members from the Aschiva, but are unable to find a solid suspect or any discernible

motive for Hayam's murder. After that, the trail went cold.

Hello everyone and welcome to the latest mini-suit of the trail went cold. I am your host

Robin Warder and since we have entered October, our podcast has now officially started the

countdown towards Halloween as all of our featured cases this month are going to have some

sort of a creepy Halloween angle to them. And our first story is one of our most highly

requested cases to cover on this podcast, the 1986 murder of Hayam WICE. This story was featured

on Unsolved Mysteries and ranks as one of the creepiest segments ever presented on the show,

made even more eerie by the fact that the crime took place in the early morning hours after

Halloween night. It's also one of the most baffling and senseless murder cases I've ever come across,

as by all accounts Hayam WICE was a very popular well-liked teenage boy with no known enemies,

yet someone went to the trouble of sneaking into a dormitory containing dozens of students

to savagely attack Hayam as he slept and no one has any idea why. Unsolved Mysteries really

played up the fact that the murder took place at a Aschiva, a school which teaches the principles

of Orthodox Judaism, it has a strict emphasis on maintaining its centuries-old traditions.

It heavily emphasized the possibility that Hayam's religion may have played a role in his murder,

but was so little evidence to work with, there are numerous potential explanations.
