Gjomer, Texas. After finishing the night shift at a local video store,

17-year-old Kelly Day Wilson vanishes without explanation and her car is found in the parking lot

with one of its tires slashed. Two years later, eight suspects, one of them a police officer

investigating the case, are indicted for Kelly's abduction and murder and accused of being members

of a satanic cult. However, when the satanic cult story is debunked, the charges against the

suspects are dropped, but the exact circumstances of Kelly Day Wilson's disappearance remain unknown.

After that, the trail went cold.

Hello everyone and welcome to the latest episode of the trail went cold.

I'm your host Robyn Warder and we've got a really bizarre missing persons case to cover today,

the 1992 disappearance of Kelly Day Wilson. And for the first time, we are going to be broaching a

pretty infamous subject, satanic cults. If you live through the 1980s and early 1990s,

it must have felt like virtually every other unsolved cold case was blamed on the satanic cult.

The actual term for this was satanic panic and it became a widespread phenomenon where people

everywhere became paranoid that satanic ritual abuse was running rampant. The whole phenomenon

is too extensive to delve into here, but long story short, it paved the way for what was known as the

daycare sex abuse hysteria, where a number of daycare providers all over the world were accused

and convicted of acts of child abuse, some of which supposedly involved subjecting the children
