October 25th 1978.

Las Vegas, Nevada.

Six-year-old Carrie Seg disappears from his school yard during lunchtime recess,

and a student reports seeing Carrie being forced into a vehicle by a man.

Hours later, the Seg family receives a phone call for McKinnap or demanding a

sizeable ransom for Carrie's safe return, but the collar never makes contact with them again.

A man named Jerry Burgess draws suspicion from the authorities when he keeps inserting himself

into the investigation, and he is eventually charged with Carrie's kidnapping in 1981.

However, Burgess winds up being acquitted of the kidnapping charged at his trial,

and no trace of Carrie is ever found.

After that, the trail went cold.

I'm your host Robin Warner, and on this episode, we're going to be covering an unsolved

ransom kidnapping involving a six-year-old child, the 1978 disappearance of Carrie Seg.

As you might know, this coming weekend, I'm going to be appearing on podcast

row at CrimeCon in Las Vegas, and per tradition, whenever I attend a podcasting event,

I always like to cover an unsolved case from the host city on the very same week.

I don't believe the kidnapping of Carrie Seg has ever been covered on a true crime podcast,

but it's a pretty bizarre and tragic story.

Carrie's father was a wealthy businessman who ran a successful carpet business in Las Vegas,

and he was actually facing some legal troubles at the time his son was kidnapped.
