January 24, 1987.

Burbank, California. 35-year-old Charlie Anderson, a deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's

Department, returns to a suburban home with his wife and two children, but is shot to death after

entering the house. One year later, 43-year-old Carol Monte Calvo is shot to death inside her home,

only four blocks away, creating suspicion that the two crimes are connected. However,

Carol's husband, Dan Monte Calvo, is eventually charged and convicted of her murder,

and while another woman confesses to being involved in both of these crimes, her claims are dismissed,

and Charlie Anderson's murder remains unsolved. After that, the trail went cold.

Hello everyone and welcome to the latest episode of The Trail Wet Cold. I'm your host Robin

Warner, and today we're going to be covering two cases which were covered on unsolved mysteries.

The 1987 murder of Charlie Anderson, and the 1988 murder of Carol Monte Calvo.

But what makes this episode particularly unique is that one of these cases is technically

considered to be solved. Charlie Anderson was a veteran deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's

Department, but while unsolved mysteries featured quite a few cases involving murdered police officers,

this one is a bit different than most. Instead of being killed in the line of duty,

Charlie was shot to death inside his own house while returning home with his wife and children.

Initially, the speculation that this was a burglary gone wrong, but we're going to explore

possible connections between this crime and another case from unsolved mysteries, or should I say,

it's short-lived spin-off series, Final Appeal, from the files of unsolved mysteries.

Just over one year after Charlie's murder, a woman named Carol Monte Calvo was shot to death

inside her home, which happened to be located only a few blocks away from the Anderson residents.
