September 17th, 1996. It's early evening in Arlington, Texas and Tancu is heading home after work. He pulls into the car park of the pear tree apartments,

walks up to the front door of his fiancé's place, 25-year-old Christine Vu, a third-grade teacher

who, like always, should already be home by now. He gets to the door around 5.30pm. He puts his key in the lock

and turns it, but the door doesn't open. This is a bit weird because it seems it's locked

from the inside. Christine would have known Tang was coming, but still there's probably some kind

of explanation for this. Maybe she's in the bathroom. Maybe she just got caught

up on the phone. Either way, Tang's thinking, in a couple of minutes she'll unlock the door

and he'll be able to get inside. So he steps back, heads down to the car, lights a cigarette and gives it a few minutes.

Soon he goes back upstairs and he tries again but still the door is locked.

So Tang heads to the apartment complex gym and he's going there purely to use the phone

thinking if he calls up to the apartment,

Christine will probably pick up, she'll probably just laugh it off, just, she forgot or something,

how annoying, but no big deal. And then she'll open the door. He dials the number and it rings.

And it rings and it rings, but there's's no answer so this is the moment when he

decides again to head upstairs and find out what is going on so once he's back upstairs outside

christine's door he tries the handle and who knows if he's actually expecting it to open this time.
