Summary
In this episode Caroline and Liz have the moment Jamie Varley was accused of the murder and sexual abuse of the baby he adopted - and he told police he would fight them to prove his innocence. In video footage shown in court he said he didn't believe Preston Davey, who was just 13 months old when he died, had injuries all over his body, and he said accusations of sexual assault were bullshit. He also said naked and explicit pictures of Preston on his phone were innocent and the police were "making a mountain out of a molehill."

| 0:00.0 | Welcome to the Trial UK, the tragic life of Preston Davy. I'm Caroline Cheatham. |
| 0:12.1 | And I'm Liz Hall. |
| 0:13.5 | We'll be back in a second. |
| 0:15.1 | Thank you. So welcome back to the podcast and welcome back, Liz, from a few days away. Now, even though the jury |
| 0:40.8 | didn't sit on Friday or yesterday, in fact, although some of us drove to Preston expecting them to sit |
| 0:46.6 | and then they didn't, but we won't labour the point too much. They did sit today and it was an |
| 0:53.3 | incredibly busy day. So actually, we were going to |
| 0:56.5 | bring you a bit of an update episode because we thought we'd have a couple of hours of evidence |
| 1:00.6 | and then we'd bring that to you on the episode today and then we'd update you properly |
| 1:04.2 | with our full episode on Friday. But it ended up being a really busy day, which means today's |
| 1:10.3 | episode is effectively |
| 1:12.2 | a usual full episode, Liz. So last week we heard Jamie Varley's version of events for the first |
| 1:19.3 | time, didn't we? What he told the police when he was arrested and how he insisted that he had |
| 1:24.5 | no sexual interest in Preston and that he wasn't responsible for any of the |
| 1:29.1 | bruises or the injuries that were found on his body after he died. Now, today we've heard a bit more |
| 1:35.1 | from those interviews and about those injuries and we should probably warn you that some of the |
| 1:40.2 | detail in today's podcast is distressing. Yeah, it is. |
| 1:45.0 | We also heard what John McGowan for Zachalry said when he spoke to the police, but unlike |
| 1:51.0 | Jamie Varley, he didn't answer their questions instead. |
| 1:54.0 | He provided a prepared statement to the officers when he got to the police station. |
| 1:58.5 | And essentially, it's quite short, it said he denied the |
| 2:02.2 | allegation of child cruelty, neglect and causing or allowing the death of a child. He said that he'd |
