Summary

An unofficial history, just for fun. In distant ages, and forgotten realms, a mighty civilization once flourished on the banks of a great river. The people of Nehekhara and their great kings are now a memory… but they are not dead. Not quite. Today, we dive into the lore of a fantasy civilization, inspired by ancient Egypt… Date c.2,500 Before the Imperial Calendar (I.C.). Includes non-canonical material inspired by ancient Egyptian history. Hello everyone, Dominic here. The episode you are about to hear is not part of the main narrative,

0:19.5

nor is it about ancient Egypt specifically. Instead, this episode

0:24.3

is a bit of fun, in which I explore a culture inspired by the art and mythology of pharonic

0:31.1

Egypt. Today, I want to tell you about the Tomb Kings, from the tabletop game Warhammer Fantasy.

0:39.7

The Tomb Kings are a mix of old-school horror movies, ancient Egyptian mythology and art,

0:45.9

with a dash of Lovecraftian horror.

0:48.6

The basic premise of these characters is simple.

0:52.0

Imagine the mummy as seen in classic adventure films and expand that to an entire army.

0:58.4

They are a culture of undead, animated corpses, shambling skeletons and inhuman creatures.

1:05.5

They march from subterranean chambers and tombs, bringing calamity to their foes. Their priests wield arcane

1:13.8

magics to cast spells and re-animate the dead. And they inhabit a world where gods are real,

1:21.1

where demons assault the earthly realms, and where chaotic forces swirl through many

1:27.3

planes of existence. The epitome

1:29.6

of grim, dark fantasy, the Warhammer universe is torn by endless war, and the Tomb Kings move

1:37.1

in that sphere. In concept, the Tomb Kings are simple. Mammies, plus magic, plus dark fantasy,

1:44.1

mixed into a tabletop war game. Superficially,

1:48.0

that is all you need to know, and if none of that sounds like your jam, feel free to disembark

1:53.5

the ride here. Of course, for those in the know, the picture is quite different. The Tomb Kings

1:59.5

have a simple premise, but their fictional history is

2:02.7

vast, an enormous tapestry of stories and legends woven together. Like many fantasy worlds,

2:10.6

the Warhammer universe is dense, rich in law and storytelling. Beyond the tabletop game,
