love and the entertainment industry as told by actor Stephen Tobolowski. My name is David Chen. I'm the managing

editor at slashfilm.com and the host of the slash filmcast and joining me today

he is the man who played Captain of the Guard in the 1987 film Space Balls, Stephen Tobolaski.

Stephen, how are you doing today, sir?

Hey man, now you're talking.

Exactly.

Captain of the Guard, I appreciate that. we're ramping up to get to better and better

roles as the podcast progresses I really love this yeah captain of the guard was very

exciting because I think as the story goes Franklin Jella was

supposed to play that part and and then for some reason he backed out or he didn't want to do it and and Bill Pullman and I were doing a play together and you remember Bill Pullman was the star of that so we invited Mel Brooks to come see the play Barabas we were doing at the Los Angeles Theater Center

and Mel Brooks asked me if I would come and audition for Captain of the Guard.

So I audition for the part, I eventually got it.

I was thrilled and will fade out on that moment

and will fade into a moment some many, many years later

where Frank Langella and I were both nominated for a Tony Award

for a Best Featured Performance in a Play on Broadway in 2002.
