Hi, this is Dana Stevens, Slate's movie critic, here with a Slate,

spoiler special podcast on the to-do list, the new sex comedy from Maggie Carey and starring

Aubrey Plaza. Joining me from Slate's DC studio is Dan Coase. Hello, Dan. Hello. So we were

just saying as we were about to start taping that I think this will be yet another of those

occasions where you make me feel like some kind of grouch for not laughing as much at a comedy as you did.

Did you like the to-do list overall?

I did really like the to-do list.

Yes, it made me laugh a number of times.

It depressed me slightly in that I think it's maybe the first movie I've ever seen that treats a year that I was in college as a period piece.

So that's a bummer.

At early 90s nostalgia, it's your first time around with that.

Did you see the whackness that Jonathan Levine, I think, is the writer-director's name movie?

Yeah, I did see the whackness, although that movie is like it could, might as well have taken place at Penny magical time.

But I feel like it was kind of an archive of early 90s nostalgia as well.

Yeah, but I guess maybe it's that it was early 90s New York nostalgia and I did not know

anything about New York in the early 90s, whereas this was like early 90s, middle of nowhere.

Right.

Suburban Midwestern nostalgia of nowhere. Right. Suburban, Midwestern nostalgia.
