Summary

Wes Goldberg and Mike Shearer are back with Good Take on the RealGM Radio, starting with their reactions to the Oklahoma City Thunder taking Game 2 of the Western Conference finals vs the San Antonio Spurs. Mike opens with a bold free agency prediction. Then Wes argues that NBA teams are realizing something important: it’s almost impossible to win a championship when your best player is over 30. From Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Victor Wembanyama, to Jalen Brunson and Donovan Mitchell, the league is shifting toward younger stars.

We've got some good takes cooking up. But before we get to that, Mike, let's start with last night's game, the Thunder, even the series against the Spurs. And I thought their biggest adjustment was being a lot more physical with Victor Webbenyama, especially with Isaiah Hartenstein. And we see in game one, they start with Jalen Williams on Wembe, And in game two, immediately you see Hartenstein. And, you know, we see in game one, they start with Jalen Williams on

Wembe. And in game two, immediately you see Hartenstein on Wembe on the very first possession.

And you see him bumping him around, moving him off his spots, trying to keep him away from

the basket. And there's a bunch of stuff that we can get into with that. But my bigger

0:52.7

picture takeaway on this is I think this is kind of what we're

0:55.5

going to be seeing for Victor Wambana's career. I think teams are just going to need like a game

1:02.9

in these playoff series to get used to the way that Wembe changes the geometry of the court,

1:08.3

the size of the court, all of these things. It's going to be like this Wembe buffer, this Wembe adjustment game that I think we're just going to see all the time.

1:16.7

And that's going to give San Antonio an advantage, I think, in most series.

1:19.4

But the Thunder are obviously very capable of winning this one.

1:22.9

Yeah, when you are playing against a specimen like Wimbonyama, who breaks the brain with his just general physical size and abilities, you know, it's a lot like Shaquille O'Neal back in the day.

1:33.8

You just have to find other ways to level the playing field that may or may not be within the rules.

1:38.2

And that typically means let's go beat up that guy, you know?

1:41.4

And we definitely saw a lot of that last night.

And I think one of my notes after game one at basketball poetry was that they needed to, I think Mark Dagnold overthought himself a little bit in game one and just yanked Hartnstein immediately. It was like, oh, we can't survive with him out here and letting Wimbenyama camp on the paint and stuff. But really, one of my notes was like use them as a battering room, like send them out there like a wimby seeking missile and just like see what happens. I didn't necessarily expect all the extracurricular activities, the grabbing, the yaking, the holding, the arm bars, that sort of thing. But you know, that's kind of part and parcel of it. Like if you can't beat somebody through the traditional basketball means, like you're going to see teams try to be a little more physical, try to rough them up. And I think you're right. Like, I think that's the roadmap.

And to some extent, Wimbanyama, Wemba can have counters to that. And we can talk about some of those

in a minute too. But some of that is also going to be like, what will the refs allow teams to get
