Welcome to the commentary magazine daily podcast today is Tuesday November 30th

2021 I'm John Pudhor, it's the editor of commentary as we are entering the last

month of 2021 I'm going to be coming to you on occasion to ask you to consider

commentary in your end of year giving commentary as our listeners may or may not know is a nonprofit 501 c3 organization

that publishes commentary magazine that produces the commentary website and that records the daily podcast

and doing these three things is not cheap and the subscriptions and advertising revenue that we generate

only pay for about half of what we do so we need assistance help and support from the people who find commentary

and value and of purpose and of meaning we produce this podcast as you know five days a week

52 weeks out of the year with a couple of breaks here and there I know a lot of people have come to rely on it

find it a sane island in an ocean of madness

so Joe Biden yesterday went before the nation to speak sobering and reassuring and literally words about the

new oma cron variant and Abe you have some thoughts about how that appearance and that speech went

yeah well so you know he got out there and he said look I this is cause for concern but not for panic

we're we've we've we've closed off flights from some nations because they aren't yet vaccinated and we have to let the vaccinations catch up to the new strain

I was asked if lock downs are on the table and he said no and then he said not for now I think it was all sort of fine in its content

in a more general impressionistic way I was just struck by how incidental he now seems to events
