Summary

The Theology of the Cross is a recurring theme on the Thinking Fellows. This fundamental concept regarding Christ and his work originated from Luther's 1518 Heidelberg Disputation. Today we flush this concept out a little further and explain why it is so fundamental to our show. Sit back, relax, grab a drink, and enjoy the show.

Hello there and welcome to the Thinking Fellows podcast. My name is Caleb and I'm joined by Dr. Scott

0:05.2

Keith and Adam Francisco. Today we are going back to theological topics. We're going to do some

0:12.4

doctrine type things today. We're going to talk about the theology of the cross versus the theology

0:17.8

of glory, which are some phrases that I'm sure long-time listeners will

0:23.0

recognize from the show because this phrase has come up in the past. In fact, I think just a

0:28.3

couple weeks ago when I was editing this show, I heard Dr. Keith say Theology of the cross

0:33.4

just very briefly in one episode. We did, let's see, right before Reformation Day,

0:41.2

so I think it was like three weeks before Reformation Day last year,

0:45.9

2017, the 500th anniversary.

We did an episode on the Heidelberg Disputation,

0:51.0

which is where this phrase originally comes from, right? Or the first time that

0:55.7

we've seen it used in writing, the theology of the cross. And so what we're going to do today

1:00.5

is we're going to talk about kind of that thesis within the Heidelberg disputation a little

1:06.3

more. We're going to talk about how this impacts theology broadly and all doctrines broadly and

1:12.1

possibly talk about how we deviate from a theology to cross into a theology of glory

1:18.7

and how and when that happens. So that's what we're going to do today. But before that,

1:23.6

just some typical announcements. Once again, thank you for all of your questions and concerns

1:29.9

about the show i've had some technical questions about stuff going on on the website so i typically

1:35.8

try to get back to you if you've seen an error on the show with an episode or something like that

1:40.4

we're still working on um it's not an entirely new website, but we made some edits

1:45.1

to the organizational structure of the site. And so I'm going through and checking episodes

1:50.1

that people have told me, hey, there's something wonky here. You know, the audio is playing
